Bowes Museum welcomes Antiques Fair

PIC 1Three galleries of the magnificent Bowes Museum near Harrogate will be given over to antiques devotees this month at a sought-after two-day event.

The Bowes Museum Antiques & Fine Art Fair will take place amid the stunning backdrop of the French-style chateau in the historic market town of Barnard Castle.

BowesThe museum was the lifelong dream of John and Josephine Bowes. John Bowes was a successful businessman who travelled to Paris in 1847 to explore his interest in the arts.  It was here that he bought a theatre and met the Parisian actress Josephine Coffin-Chevallier whom he married in 1852.

When the married couple moved back to John’s homeland, they started the Bowes Museum, which now contains more than 15,000 pieces.

The fair will play host to around 30 specialist dealers from across the country, who will  offer a wide range of antique items  for sale including town and country furniture, silver, porcelain, glass, jewellery,  antique and contemporary paintings and sculpture and many decorative items, with pieces to suit all tastes and pockets.

The Bowes Museum Antiques & Fine Art Fair, takes place on June 6-7, admission is £5 which includes entry to the museum, for more details visit www.thebowesmuseum.org.uk.
