Caddy Spoon Collectors’ Exhibition

Caddy spoons made of silver, treen, ivory and brass and even glass will be among the items on display at the Society of Caddy Spoon Collectors’ exhibition at the NEC next month.

The display, entitled The Story of the Caddy Spoon, c1775 to 2015 is the centrepiece at the Antiques for Everyone Fair in Birmingham from April 9-12.

The exhibition will feature more than 300 important caddy spoons, demonstrating the variety of skills and materials used to produce the spoons, used to measure out tealeaves.

The society was founded in 1963 by Arthur Negus, Eric Delieb – the author of several books on silver – and John Norie, who produced the definitive book Caddy Spoons an Illustrated Guide.

Today the society, which has 20 percent of its membership based in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Europe, is truly international.

The society has commissioned important caddy spoons from leading designer silversmiths, including Gerald Benney, Alex Styles, Stuart Devlin and Michael Softley. Silver experts Styles Silver of Hungerford also supported the event.
