Diamonds in demand

Cartier platinum diamond 'Lia' ringAntique and modern jewellery achieved a total hammer price of over £600,000 at Birmingham auctioneers Fellows‘ recent sale.

Elegant diamond jewellery was heavily in demand throughout the sale, most notably a Cartier platinum diamond ‘Lia’ ring, an impeccable item of D Colour, with internally flawless clarity. The rare lot sold for a whopping £120,000.

Another beautiful popular high value item from the sale was a Mouawad sapphire and diamond collar with square-shape sapphire line sides and a concealed clasp. The collar sold for £12,000. An Asprey & Garrard platinum diamond single-stone ring sold for £29,000 and a pair of brilliant-cut diamond single-stone stud earrings were estimated at £2,200-£2,800 and sold for £5,600.

Continuing on the diamond theme was a pearl, demantoid garnet and diamond ring. The precious shiny lot was estimated at £400-£600 and sold for £1,000. An early 20th century diamond, emerald and ruby salamander brooch sold for £4,500, showing the demand for diamond items. Bidders from around the world took part in the high value auction and another item which left the web in a spin was a late Victorian diamond and ruby spider brooch, selling at £2,300.
