Esher Hall Antiques & Fine Art Fair date announced

The 8th annual Esher Hall Antiques & Fine Art Fair takes place at Esher Hall, Sandown Park Racecourse, Portsmouth Road, Esher in Surrey from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 October.

Some 30 specialist dealers, the large majority of which are members of the two trade associations – The British Antique Dealers’ Association and LAPADA The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers – take part in this boutique fair showcasing a range of furniture, fine art, sculpture, glass, jewellery, ceramics and collectibles, all vetted to the highest standard.

New exhibitors to the fair include ceramic specialists Carolyn Stoddart-Scott and Emma Duveen Art & Decorative Antiques, together with Rugs of Petworth, Iona House Gallery and Marais Fine Art dealing in contemporary paintings, Surrey specialists Rae-Smith Gallery with 20th & 21st century illustrations, cartoons and design artwork and David Brooker Fine Art handling 18th-20th century English and European paintings.

Period English furniture, both town and country pieces, are well represented by W R Harvey & Co (Antiques) Ltd from Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire based S & S Timms Antiques and Melody Antiques from Cheshire. Highlights include an extremely rare and exceptionally fine pair of late 18th century satinwood flower tables with glass flower wells cleverly designed to stand back to back in the centre of a room or against a wall, c1790, priced at £29,500 from S & S Timms Antiques along with a late Regency period mahogany partner’s writing table made by William Priest of Blackfriars c1835, selling for £12,800.

Esher2Also of note is a particularly good George III period mahogany and satinwood lady’s dressing table, made c1785, from W R Harvey & Co (Antiques) Ltd for £4,750 along with a fabulous quality large Regency rosewood carved reclining armchair, c1825 also for £4,750. Melody Antiques is bringing a 17th century Jacobean oak chest, c1660, £2,350.

A wide selection of Art Deco furniture, sculpture, glass, lighting and decorative items are to be found with Jeroen Markies Art Deco from Sussex, who nearly sold out of 1930s furniture on the stand last year.

Esher1Contemporary art is strongly represented throughout the fair this year with Oxfordshire based Iona House Gallery bringing affordable art from new rising talent as well as renowned artists such as an oil on canvas of Roses by Jonathan Pocock, £2,750. Marais Fine Arts from Guernsey is showing Modern British and South African art by well known artists such as Julian Trevelyan (1910-1988), Mary Fedden (1915-2012) and Neil Worley (b.1962).

Dutch born Margot Homan exhibits regularly at prominent international art fairs. In the UK, Homan is represented by Garret & Hurst Sculpture, specialists in 19th and 21st century bronzes. Amongst Homan’s pieces is Psyche, carved from Statuario marble and for sale for £18,995. A large range of works from the 19th and 20th century is to be found with Haynes Fine Art of Broadway such as Place de la Madeleine by French post-impressionist artist Edouard Léon Cortès (1882-1969) for sale at £59,500. Original illustrations from books are highly collectable and Art of the Imagination has a coloured pencil drawing ‘Red Handed’ by Steve Hutton for £1,500, together with a selection of contemporary sculpture by Vivien Mallock, Gill Parker, Matt Duke, as well as fantasy sculpture and paintings by Paul Kidby. Other returning fine art dealers exhibiting are Baron Fine Art from Cheshire and Cambridge Fine Art.

Collectors of ceramics can enjoy spotting an unusual set of 20 early Derby plates with a yellow border, c1795, POA, and a very decorative Dudson jasperware jardinière priced at £595 from London dealer Carolyn Stoddart-Scott, specialist in antique pottery, porcelain and decorative items. 19th century papier mâché cabinets, Bohemian and Art Nouveau glass, writing slopes and 18th and 19th century porcelain from Bow, Derby, Spode and Worcester factories are amongst the eclectic range of decorative items with Emma Duveen Art & Decorative Antiques.

Esher3A selection of brightly coloured Schneider jade bowls, c1920, priced between £200 and £250 from M & D Moir, dealers in Art Nouveau and Art Deco glass, look set to attract attention as well as a D’Argental cameo vase by Paul Nicolas, c1920, £1,980. Surrey glass specialist Mark J West shows individual antique and decorative pieces.

Highlights on the popular jewellery stands include a 1950’s platinum bracelet set with sapphires and diamonds, £26,000 and an eye-catching ring by Italian designer Pederzani set with three carats of white and orange-brown diamonds, £6,500 from Plaza. From T Robert is an 18 carat gold bracelet with a fine multi-gem ‘Dearest’ cannetille clasp, c1825, £4,650 and a 14 carat gold, sapphire and pearl fan brooch or pendant, c 1910, priced at £980. Anderson Jones brings added glamour to the jewellery on offer.
