European furniture and silverware set to sparkle at Chiswick
A selection of Danish and Italian furniture and Georg Jensen silverware look set to be the sought-after pieces at Chiswick Auctions’ 20th Century and Contemporary Art & Design Sale on Tuesday 7th July.
The Georg Jensen pieces include full canteens through to individual items, including a silver christening bowl, a ‘KAKTUS’ pattern sterling silver cutlery canteen (left), and a silver bowl designed by Harold Nielsen with an estimate of £400-£600.
Danish furniture makers are represented by Jørgen Pedersen for E. Pederson & Søn, with a pair of 1960’s rosewood desks, each with steel supports (right). The sale also has eight Italian-made Morgan dining chairs in black leather seats and custom order leather covered back rests on black steel frames.
English furniture is represented by a large Mahogany Thebes Stool by Liberty and Co, London with leather upholstered dished seat, raised on ring-turned supports linked by stretchers. There is also an early 20th Century Arts and Crafts oak hall stand by Shapland & Petter (below) and retailed by Liberty. It consists of a storage cupboard with copper strap work over ‘A’
line shaped base with coat hooks.
Other Lots of note include a rare German Meissen Jungendstil period porcelain vase; attributed to Kolman Moser, a Bohemian Art Deco amber crystal glass vase; a Bernard Moore Pottery slender ovoid vase with everted rim; and William Howson Taylor (1896-1935) of West Smethwick, Birmingham, rare Ruskin Pottery high fired small stoneware ginger jar and cover.
