Good times in watch sale

HEUER - a gentleman's stainless steel Autavia Jochen Rindt chronograph wrist watchFellows auction house is celebrating the recent success of its Watch Sale, with a sold rate of 89% and a hammer total increase of 29% over April 2016.

Given the current focus on vintage Heuer it’s not surprising that all examples of the brand offered in the sale did well, including an Autavia 2446 ‘Rindt’ (left), which sold for £16,000 (plus premium).

Other brands also performed well, such as the rare Omega Ranchero, achieving £4,300; an Enicar Sherpa Ultradive, which sold for £2,100; and a Lemania two register chronograph, which fetched £1400.

Contemporary Rolex watches also did well across the board, with sports models achieving prices as much as 20% up on a year ago. Fine examples of modern watches from other brands were also snapped up. including an 18ct Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso ‘Squadra’, which sold for £6500 (plus premium).

Fellow commented, “As the vintage watch market grows and matures the breadth of brands that collectors are seeking out increases as does the prices they achieve.”
