Invisible Man film poster’s star appearance

A classic film poster of The Invisible Man put in an impressive appearance at Heritage Auctions of Dallas’ recent sale when it sold for £219,715 ($274,850).

The film was produced in 1933 by Universal Studios and the poster was made as a rare ‘teaser’ for the horror and created by artist Karoly Grosz.

The poster soared above its pre-sale estimate to eventually sell for four times the figure. Heritage Auctions’ poster specialist Grey Smith, said, “Some of the most advanced collectors have never seen this poster in person.”

Other lots in the sale that performed well were a poster for Casablanca, featuring Ingrid Bergman in front of a cityscape, which sold for £85,975 ($107,550); a poster for the Wizard of Oz, which sold for £57,317 ($71,700); and a poster for The Bride of Frankenstein, which secured £41,077 ($51,385).

The two-day sale took place from March 25th.
