Legendary rocker’s Rolex

Eric Clapton's Daytona RolexA Rolex Daytona wristwatch that once belonged to legendary rock star Eric Clapton is coming up for sale at Suffolk auction house Bishop & Miller.

The watch, that comes in its original presentation box, was purchased in London in 2014 when Eric was in between gigs in Atlanta, Georgia and Glasgow in Scotland as part of his world EC Tour.

The Rolex Daytona has the main black dial then three subsidary dials, and when originally purchased by Eric, had an 18 carat gold casing and strap. Once purchased, Eric decided to  change the 18 carat gold watch strap for the rubber bracelet strap, which the watch currently has. Bishop & Miller says that this makes it much more intriguing for the buyer as the decision to change the strap was Clapton’s, making it more desirable. However, within the auction it will be sold with both straps.

In 2016, Eric made the decision to sell the watch when it was purchased by the current vendor. The estimate for the timepiece is £30,000 – £50,000.

Oliver Miller, auctioneer, said, “It is a great opportunity to sell such a fantastic piece in our auction. The watch itself is a fine example of the Daytona, and at the top end of the wristwatch market. Furthermore, it has a fantastic and extraordinary providence, and is a great opportunity to possess a watch once owned by a rock legend.”

The Rolex will be part of the Stowmarket auctioneer’s Watch Sale in April.
