Military medal collection auction victory

A unique Northern Ireland Queen’s gallantry group of seven medals almost doubled their estimate at Tennants Auctioneers Militaria and Ethnographica sale recently, selling for £17,000.

Comprising a Queen’s Gallantry Medal, British Empire Medal (Northern Ireland Queen’s gallantry group of seven medals Military), Accumulated Campaign Service Medal 1994, General Service Medal 1962, United Nations Medal and Army long service and good conduct medal, the collection also included a Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal 1952-2002. It was fitting to see the collection sold in Yorkshire, as the medals were originally awarded to a soldier who served with The Green Howards Regiment, frequently called ‘The Yorkshire Regiment’, whose home town was Richmond, North Yorkshire.

The Yorkshire connection proved popular with bidders, as a Family Group of Medals also sold above estimate at £1000.  The medals were awarded to three members of the same family from the East Yorkshire Regiment.
