New Chairman for BADA Trust
BADA (The British Antique Dealers’ Association) has announced that its new Chairman of the Friends of the BADA Trust is Geoffrey Munn, the Managing Director of BADA member Wartski Ltd.
With over 40 years’ experience at Wartski, Geoffrey is one of the world’s leading jewellery specialists and has a particular interest in 19th century jewellery and metalwork. He is a published author, has written a book on Wartksi and also curated a number of specialist exhibitions including ‘Tiaras’ at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2002.
Munn is an ambassador for the Samaritans and Pancreatic Cancer UK and was awarded the OBE in the 2012 New Year Honours for services to charity. He is also the longest-running jewellery specialist on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow, having joined the programme in 1989.
The Friends of the BADA Trust was formed in 1991 to allow members of the public to participate in the work of the Trust, raise awareness of BADA members’ cultural and educational activities, and to promote knowledge and appreciation of the fine art and antique trade.
The work of the BADA Cultural and Educational Trust includes sponsorship of full time restoration and conservation courses at West Dean College, as well as travel awards and fees for students. The Trust has also assisted with the purchase of important items for national museums.
Speaking about his appointment, incoming Chairman Geoffrey Munn said: “I am honoured to accept the role of Chairman of the BADA Trust and I look forward to continuing the great work of my predecessor John Bly.
“As dealers, we are privileged to live and work with exceptional objects on a daily basis and I believe it is our duty, via the work of the BADA Trust, to ensure that those outstanding works of fine art, design and antiques are not only enjoyed by the widest possible audience but also by many generations to come.”
