Picasso ceramics on sale at Sothebys

Taureau jug by Pablo Picassogros oiseau visage noir by Pablo PicassoLondon auction house, Sothebys, is to hold a dedicated auction of Important Ceramics by Pablo Picasso next week, with 86 lots coming up for sale. Estimates range from £1000 to £100,000.

The auction will comprise some of Picasso’s most recognisable and remarkable pieces. Highlights include the exquisite Gros oiseau visage noir vase estimated at £100,000-150,000, and the bold Taureau pitcher estimated at £50,000-70,000.

The sale aims to offer a comprehensive and exciting collection featuring some of the most attainable examples of the artist’s work available on the international art market. The works highlight Picasso’s freedom of thought and creative powers, and the sense of playfulness for which he was so renowned.

The range of ceramics cover Picasso’s work from the late 1940s into the early part of the 1970s. They were created during the artist’s stays in the South of France and made as limited editions from as few as 25 pieces to upwards of 500.

The sale takes place on 10th April.
