Rare period oak in Doncaster sale

Lots from the sale at Ripley HallOne of the best private collections of period oak the East Midlands has seen in years goes under the hammer this month when Doncaster auctioneers Wilkinson’s sells the Padley Hall Collection.

The hall, which on the outskirts of the historic Derbyshire market town of Ripley, dates back to the 15th century. The collection includes both country and more classical furniture such as the wainscot chair and tilt top table featured.

The black jacks in the image come from a larger collection, while the tapestry and carpet are not in the sale.

The author and poet DH Lawrence, from neighbouring Nottinghamshire, is known to have frequented Padley Hall, which is currently on the market for the first time in more than 35 years.

The sale takes place at the Old Salerooms, Netherhall Road, Doncaster on April 24, with viewing on April 21 and 22 and by appointment on Sunday April 23.
