That’s entertainment at Ewbanks
A two-day entertainment auction at Surrey-based Ewbank’s features more than 700 lots, with iconic movie posters, James Bond memorabilia, the autograph collection of Sir Christopher Lee and movie costume from a Hollywood legend.
For music collectors or those who wish to travel in style, a Louis Vuitton suitcase, formerly belonging to the Oasis indie music hero Noel Gallagher, is one of the highlights of the auction. Consigned to auction by a gentleman who formerly worked for Gallagher, the suitcase bears the ‘N.G.’ gilt monogram and includes tags bearing the stars name. The estimate for this design classic is £1,500 to £2,500.
Motorsports enthusiasts will have the opportunity to acquire a piece of race track chic. A rare solid silver-coated crash helmet, created by world famous silversmiths Mappin & Webb using Arai Helmet’s base, will be up for auction. The helmet which is believed to be a one off, created in 1992, is marked with the ‘Arai Giga’ logo. The pre-auction estimate is £1,000 to £1,500.
Leading the movie memorabilia auction is a pair of James Bond number plates from Spectre (2015). The number plate ‘IL 25768H’ appears on a Range Rover SVR on screen during Austrian chase scenes. The pair of plates have been entered into the sale by the Special Effects Driver, who transported the vehicles during filming, pre-sale estimate £600 to £900). James Bond enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to purchase original movie posters for Sean Connery classics Thunderball (1965) valued at between £1,000 and £1,500 and Dr. No (1962), estimated at between £1,000 and £1,500.
The previously unseen autograph collection of British screen icon Sir Christopher Lee (1922-2015) will be another focal point within the film memorabilia section.
Sir Christopher collected autographs of world-famous figures including actors, musicians, and sport stars throughout his career. Highlights of the collection are a signed photograph dedicated to Sir Christopher Lee by David Bowie, inscribed in black in ‘For Christopher, with my regards Bowie ‘78’ which is valued at between £300 and £500.
The collection also includes items signed by Sir Christopher’s great friend Muhammad Ali, with a dedicated boxing glove, valued at between £400 and £600. Plus, a number of personalised photographs including horror legends Boris Karloff, Vincent Price and Conrad Veidt as well as many others, also in the sale is Sir Christopher’s Montblanc watch.
A naval officer’s cap worn by screen legend Gary Cooper (1901-1961) in the Hollywood comedy You’re In The Navy Now (1951) is another highlight. The cap which is valued at between £600 and £900, is labelled and inscribed by 20th Century Fox studios. This rare piece of cinematic history has been in the vendor’s possession for more than 40 years and was acquired directly from 20th Century Fox.

The auction offers collectors the chance to buy items never before seen on the open market from Bowie to Bond, Marilyn to Muhammad Ali.
“Ewbank’s Entertainment Memorabilia department is continuing to grow and grow, we have recently announced dedicated James Bond 007 sale scheduled for September 2017”.
The sale takes place on December 8th and 9th.
