Wine investor cashes in at Brightwells

A collector of fine wine from Cumbria sold his entire collection for over £24,000 at Brightwells’ latest wine sale. The Leominster Sale room was very well attended and there were also internet, commission and telephone bidders from as far away as Hong Kong.

Chateau Haut-Brion from wine saleThe wine collection had been assembled over a number of years and the vendor admitted to having a heavy heart as he watched it go under the hammer.

The top lot from the collection was a case of Chateau Haut Brion 2001 which achieved £2,800.

Elsewhere in the sale a local couple had an unexpected windfall when their neighbour left them his wine collection in his will. The first part of the collection sold for just over £6,000 with one ten bottle lot of Dujac Clos La Roche 1980 achieving £2,800. The second section of the collection will be offered at Brightwell’s next sale on 24th May.

Other highlights in the sale included a large selection of Red Bordeaux, Burgundy, Chateauneuf du Pape and Vintage Port from a Worcestershire cellar. Popular items included 12 bottles of Chateau Talbot 1996 (sold at £660) and 12 bottles of Graham’s 1977 Vintage Port (sold at £700).
